Let’s hear it for non-resolution resolutions! You might remember that one of the "things to work on" I mentioned a few weeks ago was to get my sewing machine out of its box. So I got it out of the box and looked at it and said, “Oh, how pretty!” And then I put it back in the box.
No, silly me, I used it! And I loved it.
First, the setup:
And then I read the instruction manual cover to cover (of course) and watched the hour-long instructional DVD (of course). But I didn’t think you wanted to see pictures of those.
Next, I get suckered by cute (and necessary) accessories:
Practicing getting the stitching right:
No… getting close… perfect!
It’s coming together. (Just don’t look at the stitching too closely.)
Pinning. (I’m loving these pearlescent pins, I tell you.)
Finished!
It’s a pillow. See? Pillow. I had a touristy T-shirt from one of my trips to England, and when I recently cleaned out my closet I couldn’t stand to part with it. I can’t wear it either. (Why? Because I’m not 20 anymore, that’s why.) So I cut out the good stuff and sewed it to some Austen-esque fabric. (Or perhaps Downton Abbey-esque? I wouldn’t know. I haven’t hopped on that bandwagon yet.) Though it’s not perfect, I’m quite pleased with my attempt at doing something crafty. I have another pillow cover coming up. That’s all I can handle right now. Pillows galore!

I am SO impressed. That's a great idea for using the old T-shirts you can't get rid of for sentimental reasons. I plan to make mine into a quilt, if I ever get around to it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a feeling you would love "Downton Abbey." I resisted for two years, and now I am hooked. It's just the perfect show when you need a British drama fix.
Congratulations! You've almost inspired me to pull my new sewing machine out of its box. But first I need to get the fun accessories like you've got - except I might pass on the bracelet pin cushion because I know I'd end up sticking pins in my wrist.
ReplyDeleteLovely pillow! It makes me want to go to London.
I am very impressed. OK, I'm impressed by anyone who is remotely crafty because I'm so not, but pillows are a great idea. If I bring you old T-shirts and some fabric, will you make me some fabulous pillows?
